“The Winnipeg Review” launches in grand style: irreverent and beautiful!!!

The WINNIPEG REVIEW is an awesome NEW publication out of Winnipeg. It’s irreverent and bold, and the writing is fabulous. Go here and enjoy. New work by Trofimuk in this inaugural issue…Check it out (Hey, I got my start with novel writing in Winnipeg, with Great Plains Publications).

The Winnipeg Review

New this week, The Winnipeg Review is a magazine that draws its artistic vitality from artists, “not from strategic plans, or cheap rent, government grants, or a Harperite vision of cultural trickle-down through tax deductions for kids’ piano lessons.”

It’s a magazine that has a self-imposed mandate to publish reviews, mostly of literary fiction, and an editorial emphasis that reflects the city and the landscape of Winnipeg, “a city that has been home for many distinct literary voices: David Bergen, Miriam Toews, Patrick Friesen, Joan Thomas, George Amabile, Carol Shields, Chandra Mayor, Struan Sinclair, Melissa Steele, Warren Cariou, Margaret Sweatman, Méira Cook and Barbara Romanik, to name just some. None of these voices came from a stakeholder meeting. Neither will this magazine.”

Congratulations to my friend, and publisher, Gregg Shilliday!!!

The Winnipeg Review is here.

Hey Thomas – “Snow Leopard” is great! I love airplane conversations/confessions. Maurice is great too, met him a couple of years ago. This snow is great – and if kids hadn’t built a snow fort out of the huge pile I shovelled, snow would be pointless. (My brain seems to be a runaway toboggan today – banking off the hill and straight on into trees…) It was good reading you again. XOP
