"Waiting for Columbus" is RELEASED!!!!!

Elated and emotional and humbled. Long process to get to “here.” Waiting for Columbus is released!!! It’s out in the world. The overriding feeling I have today is gratitude and quiet gratefulness. I feel blessed to have arrived here with such a fine book. And now I look to the future.

Love the Books on the Nightstand folks for their kind words about Columbus. Listen to the podcast here: Books on the Nightstand Podcast

Once again Thomas, this is so incredibly exciting. I’ll be heading out to get copies for Nicole and I at noon.

Dear Tomas:
This humility and gratitude as companions to your now-agile quill are two excellent qualities to go to the celebratory dinner. An R y J with real matches? May you be surrounded by love and have time and ease to acknowledge the deep blessing of your worthy work in Columbus: may it find its best readers and encourage all those, with you, healthy enough to question sanity in an insane world…you remind us to love past hope and loss.
I will kick the Shibumi Volvo twice for you, move a Zen rock a few millimeters toward the sun in your honor, and laugh at your success with open-throated empathic joy. Hugs to you and CL and Mack. LCF

Hey Mr. T!

You probably can’t recall me, but I was one of your students at YouthWrite the last year that you taught. I saw you on the news just now, and I just wanted to congratulate you on an interview well done.

I’ve been excited for this book since you gave us a sneak peek at camp, that summer. I look forward to reading it, soon!

Good luck! How exciting that it’s going worldwide!

Thank you for teaching me so much. I still remember everything you shared like it was yesterday. :)

Great interview! Just watched it on CTV’s website. I don’t know if you can link to it directly or not, but it’s on there as of 4:30pm Wednesday.

Thomas,

We just watched your interview from sunny Ottawa. We loved it. However, we wish that the next time someone asks whether or not you did a lot of research on Columbus we would like you to tell them “no, I just learnt it all from comics and cartoons that I saw when I was a kid.”

YAY!

I couldn’t get the interview down in the US, but I saw the reviews and Tweeted them to my friends and followers. I sooo believe in this book! But I’m caught in this paradox wherein I want everyone to read and love this book and hating the idea that people I don’t like will be reading and loving this book!

Congrats again, Thomas, on the book and on all of the awesome media coverage you’ve been getting.

(As a side note, I particularly enjoyed the multiple references to “poetry raves” in the Journal piece on Saturday.)
