Confounded by Pinsky, again...
December 29, 2009
What the hell is it with Pinsky and his apologetic greetings??? Huh? Everyone he meets, he apologizes to. “Hi, my name is Moira,” Moira will say. And Pinsky?: “I’m so sorry,” he says. Which leaves poor Moira confused. She’s not sure if she’s been insulted or if this was a sincere apology. Does this man feel sorry for her because of her name? Is there something about her name she ought to be aware of? “Nice to meet you, Mr. Pinsky,” Drifa will say. “Oh, you have my profound apologies,” Pinsky will say. And he’ll shake her hand like he means it; he really is sorry about something. Perhaps he’s apologetic about the human condition, that to live is to lose the things we love. That life is painful, and he’s sorry about it. Not that it’s his fault. Rather, he just feels generally sad about it. Or, maybe he’s shelling the beach – making sure he’s apologized for what’s about to come. He’s going to do something embarrassing, or stupidly outlandish, or boorish, or he’s going to say something incredibly offensive, or dumb.
He’ll do it to strangers, people he’s never met before. To his friends or business acquaintances, there’s never an apology; there’s just Pinsky.

Moira is confused often. Although, usually, when she introduces herself, the response is either a blank stare, a quizzical look, or, “Excuse me??”. Maybe an apology would be a welcome change…
Regardless of that, this particular Moira wishes you continued success in the new year!
