Elk Island -- kayaking on Astotin

Hopped in the car last night after work – drove to Elk Island National Park with the kayak. Put in at Astotin Lake. The sun was hazy. Probably those forest fires in BC. Regardless, it was beautiful. I figured I had about two hours before I’d have to worry about darkness. I visited four small islands. It was a brilliant couple hours of kayaking (still trying to find the most efficient way to paddle…trial and error on my part). I probably could have pushed the time but it felt about right when I headed for the beach. I love my kayak. I’ve got it down to ten minutes for inflation, less for deflation. And I just fold it up, throw it in my bag and toss it in the car.

On the way home, I stopped and watched a herd of about 40 bison. Turned the car off and listened to them pull on the grass, the bulls grunting and growling protectively – watching me.

I know this has nothing to do with writing, or gardening, or being a failed Buddhist. I’m writing today. Full on, facing the unknown. This was a nice break.
