Mr. Robert Kroetsch was in the building

Was it really Robert Kroetsch at my Leduc Public Library reading last night? He said he was Robert Kroetsch. But what was he doing in Leduc? Kroetsch, for those who don’t know, wrote Words of My Roaring, The Studhorse Man (for which he won a Governor-General’s award), Gone Indian, Badlands, and What the Crow Said. This is a VERY short list of this man’s writing. His Bibliography and Critical Bibliography is immense! He is an icon of Canadian literature – huge…and I have been a fan since my university days. If I’d recognized him, I think I would have been a jittering mumbling idiot up there at the podium (well, more of a jittering idiot). If that really was you Mr. Kroetsch, I am/was humbled and honoured to have had you there. And you have no idea what a wonderful, and odd thrill it was to sign a book for you!!!!
