October is literally literary...

October is a busy month for all things literary in E-Town. LitFest, Edmonton’s non-sexy, “non-fiction” festival runs this month. I’ve written about this before. I think LitFest ought to be combined with Edmonton’s poetry festival, the University of Alberta’s Festival of Ideas, and a fiction component, to make a brilliant literary celebration…We don’t have to try and be like Calgary’s WordFest, or the Vancouver literary festival or for that matter, Toronto’s Harbourfront shindig – I believe we can be better, more inclusive, more engaging. Standing stubborn in our genre silos, we’re nothing. Together, Edmonton could easily have the best literary festival in Canada.

On October 7, it’s "The Nightowls & Newborns Western Tour" with two Winnipeg poets, Ariel Gordon and Kerry Ryan reading at the Stanley Milner Library downtown.

On October 15, the Raving Poets fall series kicks off for eight weeks of poetic fun! Poetry, improvised music with the Raving Poets Band, and cocktails. This is Edmonton’s longest running, best attended, most entertaining open-stage poetry series. It’s coming up on ten years…www.ravingpoets.com

Later in the month -- October 24th -- Trofimuk reads in Victoria at the PLANET EARTH POETRY SERIES AT THE BLACK STILT Coffee House, #103-1633 Hillside Avenue, Victoria, B.C., Canada, 7:30 P.M. "This reading series is a launching pad for the energies of writers and poets established and not. It is a place where words are most important. A venue in which all manner of poets and writers are welcome; a place for excellence, innovation, collaboration, diverse projects and experiments." I'll likely read something from the new book...probably the only time I'll do this before the book comes out next fall.

Happy anniversay CL!!! I love you!!!
