Scofield(thanks to Gary Rasberry)

O h my God! This iCD (my term for a CD bought off of iTunes), John Scofield’s A Go Go, is fabulous. Spent the morning finishing my review of Tom Wayman’s High Speed Through Shoaling Water for Alberta Views. These poems made my legs ache for the high passes. The guy has a dharma; he finds the truth about mountains. About nature. About love.

I want to thank all my friends who passed along good wishes during this tough week…I delivered the Eulogy for CL’s father and managed to hold it together. And my students at Youthwrite, who didn’t know that CL’s dad, my father-in-law had passed away the Monday of Youthwrite. I kept this sorrow to myself, smiled and carried on. They probably didn’t get me at my best, but we still managed to laugh, and I gotta say again, they worked really hard. See the previous entry for some of their reviews of my class.

Imagine the night as a star-speckled orgasm with the remnants of a blistering hot day sitting where the trees meet sky -- barely visible....and then this trio, Scofield, a bass player and an organist....in a funky groove. And there's my brother, my fellow teacher, Gary Rasberry, saying: don't overthink it, just take it in....namaste Gary

Jamie Fleese wants to be able to google herself and actually find something!!!! Jamie is my niece and she's single AND she's a babe. She's just turned 29. I will give out her e-mail address to the right guy.

ps. I need to remedy a missed name. In an earlier comment, one of my great students mentioned a challenge that was aimed at me by my mentor, friend, teacher...closest stranger, and closest friend, Leah Fowler. Leah said; if you want to be a writer, act like one. Then she challenged me to write one page a day for a year. Writers have to have discipline. They have to practice. Great writing is not something you pick up when you retire. Credit is due, Leah. Credit is due.
