snow, and Jimmy Stewart in Harvey...
March 4, 2007
S now flits through the yard this afternoon. Small, soft flakes. Not feathery, not fluffy. Not steady. Flitting. I’m taking coffee here at the kitchen bar and I can see it against anything that’s black in the backyard. Mackenzie is watching the movie Snow White in her bedroom – I’ve got her set up like a princess in bed.
Well, I ripped out part of a wall in the living room – I guess it wasn’t load-bearing because nothing fell down…(I’m kidding. I knew it wasn’t load bearing….just really well built. I don't have a saws-all so I was using a couple crow bars and a particularly large hammer--a great gift from my brother-in-law Rick Keys--a devotee of Canadian Tire, the Chicago Black Hawks, the Oilers, hockey in general, and Westerns...The guy loves Westerns...so do I). After I cleaned up the mess, Mack and I went over to the “hill” and slid and slid and slid…The snow was frozen and fast. She laughs so hard. I love her laugh. We even went down together a couple times…two barely-holding-onto-the-slick-saucer screaming fools! Mackenzie came home and mom was on the couch with a sore back…she said: “Mommy, I have a rose in my cheeks and this rose is for you” She kills me, just kills me.
The movie “Harvey” with Jimmy Stewart is on television right now. Jimmy Stewart just said: “Nobody brings anything small into a bar.” I thought this was a Tom Waits line. Never knew this ditty came from “Harvey”…My goodness. If you haven’t seen “Harvey,” do! You won’t regret it. Very Buddhist in that it says be in life, be in the moment, because that's all life is...a series of moments. It’s a brilliant movie, heartbreaking. Soft and lovely…like the snow this afternoon.

I always thought that was a Waits line, too. “Nobody brings anything small into a bar around here. They all start out with bad direction.” Such a great line. Not as great as “All the donuts have names that sound like prostitutes.”

I know, my mouth fell open when I heard him say that line. I was convinced it was Tom. Rain Dogs remains my favouirite Tom Waits Disk…. donuts, prostitutes…Lemon Cruller, Strawberry Delight, Chocolate Coated….Carmel Dipped…Brilliant line!

Harvey is one of my favorite movies. What a great way to spend 2 hours.
I have to go feed my large bunny now.
