Sorrow?
January 25, 2008
W hat a dull, dull grey day. The snow is sifted. Plumes of exhaust escape from building rooftops – they drift up and join the grey. I promised (in my weekly sorbet notes section to weigh in on the the colour grey and my favourite word...Well, grey is fast becoming my favourite colour. “Lullaby” is my favourite word to say. It is so lovely in your mouth. Try it, go on. Say it….I’ll wait…See!?!? See how soft it is? It’s like silk in your mouth. On paper, today, I’d say…crepuscular – like twilight: relating to or resembling the fading light of dusk. Not so pretty in your mouth, or the air, but twilight is magic.
"Columbus at 4 a.m." is the working title of the new book. It’s not brilliant, but it does capture what’s going on. It points to the end of the book. And it’s a bit quirky. We’re still looking for the perfect title. Last night, I rolled “Sorrow” around the as a title. Just “Sorrow”. It comes with a built-in question, but may be too vague.

for the grey day…some lyrics:
“just when i got fed up with that grey sky
the sun came out of nowhere like a bar fight
and it knocked out the wind
and it bruised me with light
and i felt grateful for living just like i feel tonight”
(Well Whiskey – Bright Eyes)
