The cat is looking at something

Seriously? The snow? The snow is so fascinating that it causes this insane back and forth from window to window delirium in the cat? No wonder I am tired as hell today. And the cat, well, the cat is probably at home sleeping.

The cat is looking at something

The cat sits on top of the dresser beside the bedroom window –
focused on something outside.
Soft thump to the floor.
The cat moves in blackness down the hallway.
Twenty minutes later, a push-off from the foot of the bed to the dresser
and more staring out the window.
Another soft thump to the floor, and moving down the hallway.
I look in the general direction of the window.
Snow falling through the soft yellow light.
Listen. I can’t hear a thing.
Snow is deadly silent – it cleans the air of sound.
The air is luxurious – silky, humid and cool.
The goddamned cat hops up to the dresser again.
The push-off from the bed wakes me.
Glance at the time. It’s three in the morning.
The little fur-ball is looking out the window, again.
Soft thump to the floor.
The cat moves into the hallway.
I get out of bed, shut the bedroom door.
Crawl back under the covers.

Twenty minutes later, I get up,
move to the window, and look outside.

I love the idea of snow cleaning the air of sound.

Thanks for this. Best line in the piece, I think. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get my mind into poetry mode this week…and kick one through the goal posts.
