the context of weather

The cat and I have come out onto the back deck...I've cranked up the little heater and we're listening to the birds, who seem to come alive with an overdriven enthusiasm on days like this...For those not in Edmonton, I'm sorry for you. It's about 2C above. The air is cool and clean. There's snow everywhere. In the context of this place, this day is a gift out of winter. The sun is warm on my face. I can feel it. It's a hint of spring in mid-January. Oh, we Albertans fully expect the temperature to dive, again, but this day, with the sun, and birds singing -- visiting the bird feeder every two minutes...is joyous. You need the context though. This day would not seem so special without the -25C last week. Or the prediction of snow for tomorrow. So, here i am, not working on the book...sitting on the deck, with birds and the cat and a Jose Piedra cigar. This life...wow.

My friend Dean once said, he really liked it that when it came to writing and publishing, I was never daunted. I love him for saying that...but occasionally, I am. Doesn't last long though. I get to play with words, and sometimes those words-strung-into-novels, and poems, and short stories, get published, and read. Thank you to all who responded with encouragement and support on the last post. I carry on...with lightness. Last week, I got an offer from a publisher to submit a manuscript for a new imprint. Isn't that fabulous?

”Swimming to Tangier” is the new book’s title today.

God, this weekend really was great, wasn’t it? Sitting in Second Cup on Whyte on Saturday afternoon, I actually saw you and your family crossing the street outside. That reminded me to head to Burlington before I went home and pick up some Piedra’s and a couple of little Punch “London Club” maduros.

It was nice to have weather warm enough to some. It’s been too long since I’ve been able to enjoy a good cigar.
