The launch was BRILLIANT!!!

Thank you is not enough, but will have to suffice. The public launch of Waiting for Columbus last night at Greenwoods’ Bookshoppe here in Edmonton, was brilliant!!! Thanks to my friend Gail S. Sobat (one of my favourite writers), a marching band met me in front of the bookstore when I arrived. The same marching band interrupted my reading….TWICE!!! It was wonderful and mad and very much like being inside a Fellini film (No “little people” in circus attire appeared but I wouldn’t have been surprised in the least). The place was packed. Gail Greenwood and Laurie Greenwood made me feel like I was home, in my PJs, sitting with hot chocolate in front of the fire. Their introductions were lovely. They are gracious hosts, always. Wine and cakes (Laurie baked cakes!!!) were served, and I signed many, many books. I was pampered (Gail Greenwood brought me single malt in a coffee cup — if that isn’t nice, I don’t know what is) and honoured, and loved meeting old friends and new friends. It was the perfect launch for a book that is a grand love story, a romp through insanity and too-much-wine and 15th century Spain. Thank you to all who were there.

I want to throw out a big CONGRATULATIONS to my friend and fellow writer, Patrick Pilarski, who successfully defended his thesis this week and ought to be well hung over today. Proud of you, Patrick.

And finally, thanks to Columbus, my character, who gave me the password to this website so that I could post this today. He’ll no doubt be posting for the remainder of the month. He was extremely hung-over this morning. Got home at 5AM. I don’t know what post-launch party he went to but it must have been fun — he came home without shoes, or trousers, and he has a tattoo of Don Quixote on his butt. “Hell of a party,” he mumbled. Indeed.

I, too, am sorry I missed it. That damned working-for-a-living thing got in the way is my only excuse.

Congratulations on all your successes (including getting back your password).
