The Loooooooong weekend news!
September 8, 2009
A few fantastic things happened on the weekend. First, I dropped a kitchen stool on my foot and fractured a toe. The pain was quite phenomenal. I am still on the limp, hobbling around like House MD (only nicer).
Saturday night, the Louster and I celebrated Columbus with our fiends Gail Sobat and Geoff McMaster. We arrived, filled our flutes with an exquisite Dom Pérignon, and sat down. Then our friends proceeded to play, and sing, Bruce Cockburn’s Pacing the Cage, a song from which I quote in Waiting for Columbus (with permission). The Louster and I were both in tears. I have to say, I was choked before the first verse. Just the guitar riff at the beginning was enough to send me…It was a stunning performance. One I will not soon forget. I am so grateful for this gift, and the gift of friendship…
Sunday, found Waiting for Columbus in top spot – number one on the Bestseller chart in the Edmonton Journal. Yeah!
Monday, I sat down for a chat with Ken Davis, from CKUA’s wonderful Bookmark show. My god, he posed some insightful questions. His observations were sharp as razors. Wonderful chat. The show will air on September 20th.
Laurie Greenwood’s reviews of Waiting for Columbus, on CBC, and GLOBAL TV, were wonderful!!! We love Laurie Greenwood. Laurie has been, and continues to be, an ardent supporter of writers and writing in this community. See: Laurie’s Book Company and listen to the the review.

Fantastic news, Thomas. I looked up all your reviews today. Congratulations.
I’m sorry I didn’t get a copy before taking off. Internet and pretty much everything else was a mess. I’ve asked for a copy for my birthday…

Todd, Salut.
I read your first installment of “My life in France; by Todd and his family” and LOVED it. Clipped it for Cindy-Lou to read. Your unique writing style (I love the way you make a small turn inward to look at your own life and smile) came through. The story was at times surreal, horrific, and other times, charming and SOOOO French. I look forward to reading more…
If you don’t want to wait until Christmas, or don’t trust Santa, I would be happy to send you a copy….(Use the contact page on this website and send me your address…)
Be careful amongst those French, Todd.
Cindy-Lou and I and Mac are off to Toronto tomorrow morning for the first leg of the tour.
All the best
Thomas
