The Oilers...sigh.....

Wow! The Oilers are now without Horcoff for the rest of the season (the team’s top point-getter). I was at the game on Friday night. The Dallas Stars played a mediocre game and won 4-1. And they won it without raising a bead of sweat. I’m not jumping off the band wagon but now might be a good time to start building for next year, or two years down the road. I still enjoy the hell out of watching the Oil. But I gotta say – television is kind to them. Live, they looked like a really good Junior team playing against a moderately talented NHL team. They can’t pass. Under a little pressure, their passes are sloppy and idiotic. They can’t move across the opposing team’s blue line. And playmakers are few and far between. On TV, they actually look like they’re “in” a lot of these games. They sure weren’t in the Dallas game. It’s been the same all season. Injury after injury, broken stick after broken stick, penalty after penalty, and then more injuries piled on top of more injuries. Don’t other NHL teams (teams that are in the playoffs) have injuries? How do they cope? The Oilers are young and spunky and relatively fast. Now, they have to figure out how to play in the NHL. Start trading for the future, because the future ain’t now! Oh, they’ll be okay in a year or two. Until then, I’m going to refrain from checking the standings. I’ll keep watching and I am looking forward to the day when professional hockey is back in Edmonton. Tonight, they’ll come flying out of the gate and they’ll play gritty and try hard…but by the time the third period rolls around I’m thinking they’ll be down by a couple goals. Final, 5-2 Calgary. But it’ll be bloody entertaining.

My prediction of the Oilers in fourth place by the end of the season seems to have been a year or two premature.

Well Trofimuk, that was a brilliant prediction! You are a freakin’ genius when it comes to hockey. Your understanding of the game is close to perfect! Ha.
Oliers 5, Calgary Flames ZERO.

deb,
I laughed out loud!!! Thanks!
God, please never let me come up against an editor, publisher, or agent anywhere as vague, or stupid as this guy, well, not exactly like that guy, but sort of like that guy…but not. (ha!) Well, you know what I mean — well, no you don’t know what I mean but if you did know what I meant, like that, but not like that, you know? (Help! It’s contagious!)

That’s a great plan, Thomas. That’s freakin ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It’s a Swiss freakin’ watch.
