The Salon in a Saloon...

Inventory of the New World at the ARTery, as part of the Literary Saloon was BRILLIANT! Well attended, very well organized, and hosted by a couple of gracious, literary angels (Marina Endicott and Lynn Coady), this Salon in a Saloon series is a keeper…I am in love with Marguerite Pigeon’s beautiful poetry. I tasted chocolate with understanding (thanks to Edmonton chocolatier Kerstin Roos of Kerstin’s Chocolates / Chocophilia fame). And the “Skills for the Apocalypse” Ten Minute Salsa Lesson with of Etown Salsa! was wonderful. Thanks to Marina and Lynn, and to Laurie Greenwood, who sold books at the event. And thank you to all those who attended. I love it when passionate people build something wonderful in a community – they give their talent, and passion, and energy and time to make something beautiful. Lynn and Marina are builders – they are movers and shakers. I encourage you to come out to the next Saloon – I’ll keep you posted as to when it is, and who will be featured.

Dear Marina: I did not know that Grover Gardner was the “God” of audio books!!! I knew he was very, very good, and that he liked my book. But you put it in new perspective last night with your introduction. I am even more honoured and certainly humbled. Thank you.

Here’s a blurb about the man who narrated Waiting for Columbus: Grover Gardner is one of America’s most popular and versatile audiobook narrators. He began his career in 1981 and has recorded over 650 commercial audiobook titles. In 1999 AudioFile named Grover one of the Best Voices of the Century, and now includes him in their annual Golden Voices roundup of top narration talent. Winner of over 20 AudioFile Earphones Awards, he is also the recipient of an Audio Publishers Association Audie Award, as well as a three-time finalist. Publishers Weekly named him “Audiobook Narrator of the Year” for 2005. In addition to his audiobook work, Grover has been a professional actor, director, and teacher. He is active in educational theater, directing student productions for local colleges and universities and teaching graduate-level courses in acting and voice-over work. He also conducted professional audiobook narration workshops through Edge Studio in New York City from 2002 to 2006. Currently he is Studio Director for Blackstone Audio.

Dear Thomas and Marina,

“The ‘God’ of audiobooks!” Wait ‘til he wakes up and sees that!I The production was an incredibly personal and moving experience for both Grover and myself and I’m so very pleased and grateful that the audiobook was mentioned. Thank you.

Tanya, Marina raved!!! She said she and her son love audiobooks and that if it was read by Grover, they HAD to have it! He’s the best of the best…And he really is the “God” of audiobooks!!! Of course, I had to stand up and “read” from my own book…(no pressure!) after this.
Thanks again for all your support, Tanya!
Namaste
Thomas
