"Waiting for Columbus" goes audio!!

Waiting for Columbus is to be an audio book, which is cool. Got the news today. Also, got another e-mail from Pinsky, who spent the past three days in jail. Inka saved his ass. (From what I could tell, he got stinking drunk and wandered onto a resort beach; fell asleep in one of their beach chairs, which is fine, except he was completely naked. The morning was not a highlight of his life. Don’t know what the deal was, don’t know what was said, or done, to free him, but old Thelonious Pinsky was one humble little puppy. So, no provocative rants from Mexico, from Pinsky, here. When I told him about “Waiting for Columbus” becoming an audio book, he was genuinely pleased, in his own way…(I don’t think he approves of audio books in general – I don’t know why and I don’t want to ask – but he was happy that I was going to get a little money and more exposure). He did say that it was 32C where he was. I said it was about 32F where I was. Then I told him he was a bastard for mentioning the weather and reminding me that Edmonton was inside one of the longest, slowest, coldest springs I could remember. Not that I’m complaining. I love this fall-like weather, whenever it comes. That’s why sweaters were invented.

Very good news on the audio book. Congratulations! Now we can listen to Columbus while we sleep, shower, scuba dive, and drive to work! (Did they re-title it: “Listening to Columbus”?) And I agree, while a real spring would be nice, and our lilies are despondent in this cold, it is nice to have another chance at scarves and mittens. I adore scarves and mittens. And knitted hats. Though I pity the leaf-buds.

That’s awesome about the audio book. Who’s going to voice it? Any word?

I’m looking out my office window to the snow…it’s beautiful. It’s a nice moody day here in E-Ville…

Got a message from my agent…who said this doesn’t happen very often…this “audio book” deal. I went to the company’s general fiction catalogue and my head is spinning about the company my Columbus is about to be in…It is lovely beyond my understanding. I don’t have any control over the voices. Woody Allen would be good for me. Or Jack Nicholson (ha!). Wallace Shawn too!!

On the subject of writing, I’m ready to turn my back to the commotion around Columbus and write. The everyday joy of writing — being lost inside a narrative—discovering where the story is going…I’m ready. It’s calling me.

I know…this snow is a beautiful thing. Waiting to cross the street this morning, I left the cover of an overhanging building to stand in it. I’m sure the huddled women behind me thought I’d lost my mind. I can’t help it that I love snow.

1. Congrats on the audio book. I’m with Jadon on this one: Gilbert Gottfried for the narrator.

2. You’re all a bunch of bastards, reveling in this autumnal weather. I love the autumn as much as the next guy—more than the next guy, even—but this is supposed to be spring. I’m tired of wearing sweaters. I want to wear shorts and t-shirts. Bring on the heat.

Dear Thomas, I meant to write sooner about Pinsky -my sister Ruby says to say hi. As for me, you tell that stupidfuckgildedlily to pay me the money he owes me. My bar is a mess after his last visit. One small stick of dynamite is still one small stick of dynamite and it was not a cute party trick Pinsky! Besides, if this snow keeps up, I seriously need a wall back there. Thanks, Paulette
p.s. pretty cool about the audio book – it’s not Pinsky reading it is it? I know he needs the money, but can you trust him to not switch accent half way through?

Yes, that sounds exactly like Pinsky. “It was just one small stick of dynamite.” I can hear his voice getting all squeaky and small at the end…My god, I do not know why I still have him in my life. I’ve never known anybody who had access to dynamite!!! Mind you, I’ve never met anybody who could talk a car, full of nuns into having a party in a convent, (their convent) with a live band and “escorts” and four cases of coolers. He is truly mad. Incidentally, I have become accustomed to receiving a threatening email from his lawyer every morning…what’s that about?!?! I can give you Pinsky’s lawyer’s e-mail address. You should be able to rattle her with your bar story, but then again, it’s Pinsky.

The Playboy bunny tat doesn’t suprise me. Isn’t that original!!!! What a moron! Of course, Pins will come up with some stupid name for it like “retro-cool” or “retro-hip”...

Yes, send me the email for his lawyer – my sister hasn’t stopped pissing and moaning since he left… someone must pay. That tat surprises me – it’s one more way to identify a dead body – does he realize that?!
